Malta tingħata portafoll dgħajjef fit-tim il-ġdid ta' Von der Leyen

Malta ngħatat wieħed mill-portafolli l-inqas kruċjali tal-Kummissjoni Ewropea fit-tim il-ġdid imħabbar mill-president Ursula von der Leyen.
Glenn Micallef, l-eks kap tal-istaff tal-Prim Ministru Robert Abela, se jinħatar Kummissarju għall-Ġustizzja Interġenerazzjonali, Żgħażagħ, Kultura u Sport.
Iż-żgħażagħ u l-isport kienu parti mill-portafoll ta’ Iliana Ivanova, u kien jinkludi wkoll l-innovazzjoni, riċerka, kultura u edukazzjoni.
Micallef huwa wkoll wieħed mill-iżgħar kummissarji nominati, għadu irid jgħaddi mill-proċess ta’ skrutinju mill-kumitati responsabbli tal-MPEs u jiġi vvutat mill-plenarja.
Il-Prim Ministru Robert Abela qal fuq X li jinsab ferħan li Micallef ġie fdat b’portafoll importanti. “L-UE għandha impatt sinifikanti fuq in-nies, partikolarment fuq iż-żgħażagħ, il-kultura u l-isport. Mument ta’ kburija għal Malta hekk kif in-nominat tagħna jieħu rwol ewlieni biex jifforma l-futur tal-Ewropa.”
Von der Leyen ħabbret dak li ddeskriviet bħala struttura iżgħar u aktar interkonnessa ta' 27 kummissarju, kollha nominati minn kull stat membru individwali tal-UE.
Bħala għan biex tinkiseb il-bilanċ bejn is-sessi, hija qalet li 11-il mara (40%) se jkunu parti mit-tim, dan bis-saħħa tat-talba tagħha minn kull stat membru biex jinnomina kummissarju ġdid ta’ kull sess.
